SFD

What is SFD?

SFD (Schutz der Fahrzeugdiagnose) replaces the older login and [Security Access] codes you may have seen on V.A.G cars. Previously when doing things like brake pad replacement, you may have used a [Security Access] code to unlock the module and retract the callipers so you could push the pistons back and replace the brake pads

On later model cars this has been replaced with a two way handshake between the diagnostic tool/car and VW/Audi online servers. 

VCDS can now process the handshake online with the VW/Audi servers and unlock modules on the later model cars and they have opened the service to a public beta test in preparation to go fully live with it
