Hi All

I have a 1998 323 with an M52 engine, recently the temp gauge is not reaching center as it normally does and the coolant level in the expansion tank (type intigrated with radiator) was low, topped up and tried again but still now change.

according to my workshop manual you fill the tank to cold, release the blead screw located next to the fill cap, turn the heater on full and top up the level until no air bubble come out of the blead screw, tighten the screw back up and replace the cap, run up to temp and let cool and check again.

All the above sound good in the book but when I do this I end up with the expansion tank filled right to the top and I'm not happy about testing it like that as theres no room for expansion!

Anyone done it before??

Cheers

had a similar problem before, what i did was to jack back of car up in air and turn on the internal heaters to hot and release the bleed screw on the rad and rev up for ages till all the air escapes! took ages . other alternative is to get hold of a vacuum bleeder and compressor which will suck all coolant from system and refill all hoses etc with coolant when vacuum is released. hope this helps u jimmy boy!
