Hi
Engine management light on and poor performance. Customer also says that there is a message informing him that the cruise control is not available.

Using the Dec SSII and the Can attachment to the OBDII lead, I was able to use EOBD.

Fault codes:
P0171 System too lean Bank 1
P0174 System too lean Bank 2

Lambdas both stuck at 0.01v also LTFT of 19% and in open circuit.
I found an air leak through a split breather pipe from right hand bank rocker cover (nearest radiator) to the inlet manifold.
I made up a pipe whilst waiting for a replacement part. Not perfect, but good enough to allow the system to go in to closed loop and the engine sounded happier.

The both lambda sensors were now starting to work, but very very gradually, almost to the point of flat lining.

I won't check it again until the new part arrives, but I don't think that were out of the woods yet.
There are now 3 pending fault codes. 2 of these will clear, but soon return:
65905 - which I presume will alter to P0171 when it becomes a propper code.
65908 - which I presume will alter to P0174 when it becomes a propper code.

Also, there is a pending code which won't go away:
69632 - Unknown code

Has anyone got a clue what this unknown code relates too and perhaps I may then understand why it won't clear from the pending list??

Thanks.

If you recalculate these numbers to hex and then subtract 10000h you get P0171, P0174 and P1000.
P1000 is probably Ford meaning, not all monitors complete. Caused by clearing codes. That one will never go away with a clear codes.

Why they don't clear? Either your tester sends a a strange clear or the programmers of this system didn't read the rules (good enough).

 Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Now why didn't I think of that??  Tongue

Just run that by me again  Embarrassed

I'm sure Derek has brushed on the workings of hex decimal before, but at the time I saw no need to learn something I perceived I wouldn't  have any use for.  Undecided

Just found this calculator, so I needn't learn how to convert it  Cool

Enter in the code as displayed on the diagnostic scanner and just deduct 10000 as oldford says from the box containing the 'Hex' value answer. Or, just change the first 1 to a P for the OBDII code

Thanks very much for sharing the calculator link - a brilliant discovery on your part!
I've added it as  a favourite just in case I may need it in future!

Cheers

Calculator is part of windows. Just set it to scientific and it can convert hex to decimal and vice-versa.

As I now know how the code is calculated and there's not a problem, then this can be filed as a fix  Thumbs Up

PS

The breather hose has sorted the problem out.
Looking at live data long term fuel trims, they were soon down to 1.5% and 2% and short term 0%

The both lambda sensors were now starting to work, but very very gradually, almost to the point of flat lining.

Embarrassed Embarrassed On rechecking, I noted that they were Bank 1 Sensor 2 & Bank 2 Sensor 2 and so were working fine.
Bank 1 Sensor 1 & Bank 2 Sensor 1 for some strange reason are not listed??
