Customer brought in a Transit non start after replacing engine and apparently swapping over diesel pump to prevent any problems.

I've coded in the diesel pump to the last engine they replaced (engine didn't last the warranty period) but what i can't understand how does it log this fault code P2139 - PCM identification Mismatch error if they've used the original pump.  I was told it needs the key programming (which i thought was strange) but although once i coded key it did crank over but still the PATS light flashed and non start.

I then coded in Fuel pump and light went out and after alot of cranking and a sniff of brake cleaner eventually it fired up.

Now have they told me a blatant lie and the pump hasn't been changed or can the fuel pump lose its configuration.

Possibly, if they had fitted the 'third' engine with it's own pump and 'tried that', before fitting the 'original' pump, the code would still be in the PCM!?

No they've told me they changed the pump before fitting the engine as it was easier for them to do it.

I just want to know why this happened.  The only possible conclusion i can think of is the mechanic who fitted engine didn't change pump as instructed by his boss who was the person i spoke with so i suppose he wouldn't have any reason to believe its the pump at fault.
