Just after a little background info on the charging systems on these, having never worked on many Hondas at all.
Came in from another workshop, not charging and alternator light on. Checked voltage at battery with engine running, voltage at 11.8 volts max. Suspected alternator faulty but was then told that the alternator had been previously tested and proved good.
Do these have any kind of smart charging system or relay etc to switch the alternator on?

Try taking a reading at the alternater.

If you have 11.8 volts there then it must be the alternater

hello,
would be looking at the main feed first to see if it present
then check the plug thats going into the alternator also,
this plug may require ign or b+ feeds also
cheers easy

Voltage at the alternator output is exactly the same as at the battery.
There are 3 pins going to the alternator plug. One I guess is going to be for the ignition light on dash, but what about the other 2? I have no diagram for this model so am a bit stuck.

Bm

Nothing on the Type-R specifically; but the normal 2.0ltr has a key-on fused feed on the black/yellow and the other two [Wh/Bu and Wh/Rd] go to the engine management ECU.

Read the ECU for codes - looks like a smart-charge system.
