Hello,
got this in during the week, customer reported that oil light came on when driving, so stripped engine down and found that pin that secures main timing chain slide and oil pump chain tensioner had broke clean in the block, also timing chain casing is damaged aswell oil pump housing is cracked, also customer drove 2 mile with oil light on,,, Cry

Didnt look any farer yet but i am told this is a common problem with these engines

so thats why i dont think theres any point in getting a second hand engine, as same thing will probably happen!!!
anyways was told this is mercedes engine but i cannot find this engine on autodata, Huh

Does anyone know if this engine is used in mercedes, ?? or know of any modification out for these engines??
(xdi 200 and 70k mls on engine,)

Thanks
Ciaran

I was on the understanding that the engine was made under licence from Mercedes, that is different to being made BY Mercedes.

Grrrrreat!!
guess its like everything, you get what u pay for,, pay peanuts u get monkeys!!!,
anyways think il remove engine and check main bearings etc for wear, and maybe get it rebuilt with stronger pin or bolt modification for chain guides,

thanks for replies, (am wiser now than i was but pity i wasnt wise enough not to take this job in !!!!!)
