Doc,

But can you seriously tell me the need to to use a shear bolt on the ecu multiplug that isn't easy to access, the pins in the plug/ecu are poor and all it will do is increase the chances of more damage.

Ford actually do a special tool to remove it.  If i really needed to remove it then it can be done but you can remove the back cover from the multi-plug but back probing is fairly difficult.  I used very fine piercing probes which i've read plenty of bad comments about but needs must.

Lee, the 'special' tool does not remove the shear bolt. It is just a guide bush for a drill bit!

This has been fixed at the dealer at a cost of £225+vat.  Don't know the exact fault as customer doesn't quite understand but it was a wiring fault found within the loom.

How she described it was a crossed wire.  I can only assume it was a CAN wiring fault but don't know why this hasn't shown up on my tests but this is only a guess.

When i get back from my holiday i'll ring dealer as find out more as i'm a little embarrassed that i couldn't find a wiring fault but that's life.

Lee, speaker cable thrown across is a last resort i always use to confirm my testing of wiring. I'd be inetrested to see what the repair consisted of as you appeared to cover the wiring pretty well. Are you sure this wasn't a re-flash? It would be nice to get to the bottom of it now that its gone this far. One thing seems clear though, you need to upgrade that WDS as your starting to hit grey areas.... Thumbs Up

Lee did you ever get around to doing the harnes test using teslite.  Disconecting the harnes between TCM and PCM and introducing a 12v jumper in at one and and teslite on the other.  I still think looking back on it all that was the trouble area.

Kev,

No i didn't ever use the Teslite (which is s shame as its what i bought them for) but due to the tamper proof bolt on PCM i didn't want to disturb it  but i wish i had now.

The CAN code as i've said all along was a permanent fault and i think it was between the PCM/TCM wiring harness but i did check this with a scope and it looked perfect to me but was this only on time of testing.

I did ask the ford dealer to phone me with an outcome but they obviously didn't which is a shame as i'm now off for 3 weeks so by the time i get back they'll have forgotten all about it.

Yes mate your not wrong, i'd love a new IDS but i just can't afford all what i want and a Pico Scope is next with Vag-Com and laptop.

Also i'm not looking back through 10 pages but on my last few attempts to learn transmission it kept failing at a certain point (but done enough to enable it to start) due to it thinking the tyre/axle ratio was set wrong.  Is this info stored in ABS or PCM and transmitted via CAN network to TCM.
