Kev,
Reason for rebuild was the infamous nikasil coated bores and yes that code was not there before the rebuild. Am rechecking the timing today and no I do not have a wiring diagram. Will let you know how I get on today.

Was the chain and tensioner changed during the rebuild?

Yes the chain and tensioners were changed.
Update. the car has been taken by the owner it has done maybe 20 miles today without the code reappearing it is going back to the UK in 15 days time and the owner will be in touch if code returns before then and will be bringing it back. Will update as soon as I hear anything.
