You tell me homersnitemare
I run a small independent & it seems the hardest thing these days is finding any quality technicians. There seems to be a big skills shortage. Many techs i know have or are leaving the trade to take up easier jobs which pay better   Cry

Seems that you're right. I had a geezer approach me at christmas offering to buy my customer list and pay me off so's he could swallow up my catchment area. When he gave me the figure, I was sorely tempted. But I just can't leave the only trade I know. Smiley

tell me about it,few friends i know and used to work with who were in the trade are now either builders, sparkys or plumbers etc earning twice as much as me for only half the labour tlme(afternoons off and long weekends) Sad
trouble is trying to get customers to accept their cars cost what they do but they think youre taking the p***
most of the time but dont bat an eyelid when it comes to that nice conservatory or new bathroom Huh.so trying to keep youre costs fair and try to pay someone a wage (especially when theyre just learning and on minimum wage, wish i got that much when i started)can be a bit of a struggle.

I was a tech for 33 years & earn't good dosh 35k+ but found I could earn more without all the physical work & dirt & stress .
40-45k & I might be tempted to go back. 24k wouldn't even get out of bed for that!
