Hi, I have just purchased 2003 Hyundai Coupe, silver metallic. Looks to be in excellent condition.Have just noticed that when I rub my hand along paint surface I get a gritty feel and the metallic in the paint seems to stand up giving appearance of small black holes. I rubbed these areas down with T-cut silver colour fast and it now feels smooth and looks fine. But I'm a little concerned, is this common with metallic paint or have I bought a resprayed car that has'nt been finished properly. Will it continue to happen?
 Thanks

Is it all over all panels or just a localised area?

Hi, seems to be over all panels. After I got effect on front bonnet and front wing I rubbed them down with Tcut. I tried one or two other spots and was getting same effect. Got same effect on paint over wing mirror so I think its everywhere. Its very unlikely ( I hope) that car was resprayed everywhere so perhaps its normal. What do you think?

Diarmuid

Has this car been parked near a railway line or at an airport?  [Or near someone grinding?]

No, not parked where it could pick up dust or filings. Can metallic paint behave in this way? If its comman then someone would have come across it in the past. Any suggestions.

Hi, I now think this was just a gritty dust picked up somewhere. When rubbed with dry cloth it was behaving  in a strangle way but having washed the car down the problem is gone. I think it was a false alarm.
 Thanks for replies.
