Hi, I'm thinking of having my car chipped to release a few more horses.   Is this wise on a fairly old engine (117K miles)?   What are the pitfalls to look out for / best options for me?   Do these chips or modules (Some, I believe plug into the OBD port) make a noticable difference and do they increase teh fuel consumption?

Any advice or comments gratefully received...Rosie

Personally I wouldn't bother even on a lower mileage car.I tend not to touch cars, leave them standard.I believe if I should need a faster car, then I would sell the car I've got and buy one which is faster to start with.

It's your risk though although I can tell you that I have seen plenty of these engines with knocking ends, conrods through the block and turbos gone even when standard.

On a standard engine as long as it's running ok and you keep maintaining it properly it should be ok.It's usually when people don't maintain them and abuse them when you get problems.
